At Samsung mobile i was in the product planning team envisioning future devices for upcoming years. Discovering and creating next generation mobile devices takes the combined efforts of many departments. Technology improvements, hardware manufacture and developments in advanced physical user interaction must all be taken into account in addition to software improvements, service integrations, and business initiatives.

The team embarked on the project by observing users, and analyzing consumer and technology trends to conceptualize future trends. Based on the conceptual model, design principles are layed out and ideas are generated. Through scenario building and scenario scoring, a final product concept was proposed. After several months of prototype development, working prototype was shown at Mobile World Congress 2010 at Barcelona.

Complete integration of social networking into the operating system of mobile devices will enable them to function as true social hubs. Based on this concept, I led a series of intensive and exciting ideation sessions resulting in a number of prototypes that were proposed and developed. Samsung smart touch phones can now integrate contact information and messages from various networking services and provide a unified view. We designed a system wherein each contact's page serves as a communication hub where you can see all your calls, SMS, and e-mail from that person, then touch the Activities tab to see their Facebook and Twitter updates, or go to the Media tab to see all their photos and videos. Integrated phonebook is now part of Samsung Social Hub - available for all Samsung mobile devices with TouchWiz3.0, the 3rd generation of Samsung touch phone UX platform.

As a place to find recipes and articles on food, AOL Food has expanded greatly in the past year since its opening in Spring 2007, shortly after I joined the team as web designer. The 'Grilling' section launched in summer 2007, followed by 'Drink', 'Play With Your Food', full of fun food photos and articles, and most recently 'Food Community'. Since the launch of AOL Food, its functionalities have been enhanced to make it more usable and relavant to its audiences. AOL Food is now one of the most popular food sites in the US.

As the primary designer for AOL Food, I created visual mockups and designs for new featured subpages using CSS to create skins, resolved cross browser performance issues and performed visual quality assurance. In addition, I researched online food communities' interaction design and functionalities to aid in ideation of AOL Food Community.

AOL Horoscopes for iPhone is an application which connects you to your daily horoscopes, the 'Love Meter' and weekend love scopes when you're on the go. Launched on May 15, AOL Horoscopes was selected as an Apple Staff's Pick application and became 5th most popular iPhone application as of June 2008!

Working on this application allowed me to become familiar with Human Interaction design solutions which are specific to iPhone and CSS3.

AOL Food for iPhone is an application which allows users to search for recipes and find daily dinner suggestions when they're on the go.

I designed this application to follow the look and feel of the AOL Food site while incorporating iPhone specific design elements to enhance usability. AOL Food launched in July 2008 and was also promoted as an Apple staff's pick!

In partnership with GMC, AOL Living features videos of celebrity cooks, home decorators and stylists who provide living and lifestyle tips. The upcoming GMC video hub will consolidate all of this video into one easy-to-use location.

I proposed a visual design for the video hub which expressed 'refined', 'polished', 'aspirational' and 'empowering' feeling.

'America Takes It Off' is a featured website under AOL Health's Diet and Fitness section. It provides articles, galleries and video tips related to diet and fitness.

I designed the site's 2008 look, expressing energetic, excited and motivated feelings to encourage people who want to start 2008 with new diet & fitness motivations. I then implemented the design with CSS.

With its new design, the number of page views significantly increased in 2008.

AOL Living opened its Holidays section in 2007 with tips and tricks, gift ideas, recipes and features to help people stay organized, calm and in control during the Holiday season.

The site was designed to evoke 'wintery', 'sparkly' and 'special' feelings. I proposed a design solution with festive, snowflake-like pattens and implemented it with CSS.

'RX for Spring' is a featured package of AOL Health that provides seasonal articles such as diagnosing allergies.

I proposed a design of 'RX for Spring' 2008.

'Celebrity Diet & Fitness' is a featured page in AOL Health's Diet & Fitness section. I developed the design for this project from concept to final design proposal.

AOL Health's Condition Center provides information on diseases and health conditions. With the approach of Breast Cancer Awareness Month - an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October-, AOL Health opened a featured section on Breast Cancer Awareness. My design proposal was created to express 'helfulness', 'compassion' and 'trust'.

As a featured section on AOL Food, Dinner Tonight provides daily dinner recipe suggestions. I proposed a design solution which embodies the keywords 'fresh', 'friendly', and 'helpful'.

MMBB : Myung Myung Baek Baek is a ongoing series of instructional comic books for highschool students. Boram Park and I are founders and directors of the series. The first book of the series, General Geography, was published in May 2010. MMBB explains the origins of the geographic terminology in cartoon format, connecting unfamiliar terms with familiar concepts. As we are creating a new approach education in Korea, we wanted to connect to students using new media formats. As part of the marketing and online services of the project, we started contributing to Wikipedia (Korean), with the cartoons from the book. Also we are Tweeting and blogging, not to mention running our own website, mmbb.kr.

We will be continuing to develop our ideas in new formats using web and mobile technologies. Many are planned - stay tuned.

freeFormed.net is a group networking platform based on media sharing. Structured around the uploading of media - photos, videos, text and voice - from mobile phones, freeFormed emphasizes group interaction and the virtual connections that can develop spontaneously between groups in the real world. Targeting non-profit organizations, community groups and activists, freeformed automatically connects groups which share similar activities.

Created as a student project at the Interactive Telecommunications Program at New York University in collaboration with Catherine Colman and Megan MacMarray, I took part in concept development and information architecture, and was in charge of UI design, visual design, and front-end development. freeFormed was publicly presented at the Electronic Social Club of Hunter College (New York 2007), the Young Investigators Forum on Culture and Technology at KAIST (Daejon, South Korea 2006), the Identity and Identification in a Networked World Symposium (New York University School of Law, New York 2006) and Electronic Social Club at Hunter University(New York, 2007).

I proposed a design for an application that runs inside freeFormed which serves as a navigation tool and visualization of multiple layers of relationships. freeFormed.net allows users form community groups called Circles. Circles in freeformed make connections with other Circles that have overlapping interests. The idea behind this concept is to help small groups and social activists build larger networks and benefit from the connections. Thus, the network that the individual can have inside the website is more complex than those of other social networking platforms. This tool visualizes the network connections in folder structure to help users navigate and locate themselves in a bigger network.

Created in collaboration with freeformed, WITNESS and Global Voices, the Human Rights Video Hub [Pilot] is a first step towards the development of a Human Rights Video Hub. This Hub will be a place where anyone anywhere can upload human rights related video footage from handheld devices or laptops to create communities and propose calls to action in response to the abuses they witness.

As part of the Social Justice Internship funded by New York University, freeFromed group built a mobile application for posting to the WITNESS site from mobile devices and designed their administration pages.

Online shopping site design and development for CUBE, a soap company based in Seoul. The development is a complete customization of the Blueribbon site development tool which connects the site to major online open markets in Korea. The design theme is clean, hygeinic and cosmetic as the products are for special care for trouble skins.

Blueshimp is an entertainment company based in Seoul, managing jazz musicians. Their website, blueshrip.kr, is where the music fans come to get news, artist updates and watch videos. I designed their site's visual look and interaction, and developed the site using Xpress Engine.

Derail is a public interest 501(c) corporation formed to educate the public about the proposed High Speed Rail (HSR) project in California. Derail opposes the creation of the High Speed Rail on economic and geo-political grounds.

I built the derailhsr.com site that serves as a place for public announcements, membership, and Q&A. The site is built upon the Wordpress blog template with additional functionalities.

Red Fine Line is a DJ artist agency. I designed and developed the RedFineLine.com website that serves as an online dj roster and booking agent for Red Fine Line. Venues can get information about DJs and book them for events. I also built the administration pages to enable the Admin to confirm the reservations and publish newsletters online.

10 Days Project is an art piece about the process of data translation. Created by Heejung Cho and Isabela G at the Vermont Studio Center in 2005 as a part of an artists' residency program, the 10 Days Project follows an article from a local newspaper as it is translated through speech to drawing to writing. Each day, an article is read by a residency artist and explained verbally to another artist who draws what she/he heard, this drawing is then reinterpreted back into narrative by another artist. This process was repeated for 10 days. I designed the website to explain this complex process and allow users to browse through the result of each stage.

jadieoh.com is my personal website where I keep an up-to-date portfolio and information. It's my playground and workbook for web design+development skills. The site is built with PHP, the navigation is built with Flash Actionscript 2 and the interface is built with a Javascript framework called Mootools. The site is currently in its 4th iteration since I began indulging in web in the fall of 2005.
